How to setup your Android TV

What is Android TV?

Android TV is designed to make your TV smart and to bring Android to your TV. This means bringing not only video but games and apps to your screen. In addition, you can use voice controls and it has Chromecast built in.

What is Android ADB?

Android Debug Bridge (adb) is a command line tool that lets you communicate with a device. You have to enable Android ADB on your Android TV to make it work with Eddy.  Some Android Devices require you to enable Developer Mode and or use a physical Cable to enable TCP Port, in order to enable Android ADB over the network.

What commands can I do?

You can send a large set of Android commands, see here. Some of the basic things you can do are:

  • Pause
  • Play
  • Launch an app
  • Play a Netflix video
  • Fast Forward
  • Rewind
  • Go Home

How can I setup my Android TV with Eddy?

There only one way to setup an Android TV, which is using Eddy Bridge. This is because it requires a local Android ADB server running.

Can I setup Chromecast too?

No. Chromecast is limited in functionality and things you can do on it. It doesn’t make any sense to add another controller that does only a fraction of what Android TV can do.
